ALAFIA EDUCATIONAL
Alafia Music offers a variety of educational offerings, all of which are co-ordinated with the needs and ideals of the particular music program. All the Alafia ensembles are available for in-school presentations, workshops and clinics. These offerings are often done in conjunction with a formal concert.
A popular option to having a full ensemble give a presentation is to have a clinic given by just one specfic individual, depending on the instrument wanted.
My name is Mark Fenderson and I am a graduate of the University of Southern Maine and the University of South Florida. I am currently a Teaching Fellow and Doctoral candidate in trumpet performance at the University of North Texas. My experience includes all aspects of trumpet playing, from being a member of the Portland (Maine) Symphony Orchestra to being a musician at both Disney World and Busch Gardens in Florida. Teaching has also been a great love of mine and I have enjoyed working with all levels and ages of students. I feel that my greatest strengths have been my versatility as a player and my love of teaching.
My Trumpet Clinics cover all aspects of trumpet performance and musicianship, and include the following topics:
Sound production
Musical communication skills
A synopsis of styles and possibilities
Fundamentals of improvisation
I like to tailor the workshops to include student performances as well as my own. I find I can make strong, lasting points very well using the students themselves to illustrate the information. Versatilty is the key, however, and I am always flexible in working with everyone to provide a presentation that best suits their needs.
